The Illinois Tech men's and women's Track & Field teams competed at the Benedictine University Relays this past weekend. The weather was warm and sunny on both Friday and Saturday and Assistant Coach Nick Schneigert predicted that the team would be setting many personal records that day, and he was right. Almost all of the athletes on both the men's and women's teams broke their own personal records on their events.

The Illinois Tech Track and Field team had their first meet on Saturday January 16. At that time, the team was very small and the coaches were new to Illinois Tech. Since then, the team has grown significantly in number and has competed in two more meets. The second meet was the UW-Parkside Green and White Invitational on Saturday, January 30, where the women's track and field team placed fifth and the men's track and field team placed seventh.

Late last week, many of us here at Illinois Tech lost a friend, collaborator, and inspiration. Jay Morris was killed by a fellow classmate outside Keating Sports Center in the early hours of Thursday morning, followed by a series of commemorative events demonstrating the impact he had on the student community. He was a dedicated student leader at the university, and will be missed. Here are some brief observations from many here at IIT who came in contact with him at one point or another:

Kappa Phi Delta and the Illinois Tech Women's Volleyball team joined forces to host this event. The day started with students waking up to find that these girls had tied pink ribbons on many of the posts on campus as well as decorating the windows and sidewalks all over campus with motivational and supportive messages to those who had survived breast cancer or had been affected by breast cancer.

The Student Government Association (SGA) at IIT held its biweekly senate meeting last Wednesday, October 14. The meeting ran very smoothly and the new senators seem to be settling into their positions well. The first order of business at the meeting was the president's report. The President, Rahul Wadhwani, discussed a few topics, including getting SGA on Student Speak. Student Speak is an online survey that all IIT students are encouraged to participate in.
