As a student, staff member, or faculty member of Illinois Tech, you have probably at some point been asked by some friendly students on the MTCC bridge if you would donate to ASB by purchasing some item for a fundraiser.  ASB is more than just an organization looking for money.  ASB is short for Alternative Spring Break, and it is a student organization on campus that partners with Habitat for Humanity, participating in this non-profit, international organization’s Collegiate Challenge spring break build.  Each spring break, an extremely dedicated and passionate group of students, a

Meet Tom Henehan, currently Project Manager in Design & Construction for the Facilities Department on campus.  If you have ever wondered what goes on in that building north of Main Building, Machinery Hall is the building that houses the Design & Construction components of Facilities, which is where Henehan’s office is located.  In his role as a project manager, Henehan is the contact person for contractors and architects on building renovation or new construction projects on campus.  Henehan acts upon requests from users and departments on campus for building renovatio

Riding up the elevator in the Tower is usually not very exciting.  Wouldn’t it help to be greeted by a smiling face while walking into the office on the 14th floor after turning right?  Entering the School of Applied Technology (SAT) office in Suite 14B of the Tower, no one can help smiling back to Carolyn Nivling.  She is the one sitting behind the desk, ready to greet anyone who might stop in.  Nivling is currently the SAT Assistant Director of Student Services, also dealing with alumni relations.  Nearly a year ago, Nivling was promoted from her previous position with Illin

Passing by the Office of Campus Life (OCL) in the MTCC, the more seasoned IIT’ers probably have noticed the different office set-up and different person behind the desk that used to be Ryan Miller’s.  Please do not be alarmed!  Ryan Miller has simply moved to an office closer to the International Center, and this new person is super nice and welcoming, ready to help with anything you may need OCL-wise.  Currently in her fourth month as the OCL Administrative Associate, Stephanie Glover is now “the front face of OCL.”  Stephanie mostly handles the purchase requests and finances

If you stopped by the post office in MTCC at all in the past year, you surely saw him.  But you probably don’t know much about him.  His name is Ken Chatman, a fourth year computer engineering student at Illinois Tech.  Last year, one week before school began, he was searching for job opportunities on campus in Jobs4Hawks and sent in his resume for a job at the post office.  To his surprise, he got a call just one hour later.  They were looking for someone immediately, and he got an interview on the Monday of the first day of classes; and we all know the outcome of that interview.

Eighteen students and staff members of the Illinois Tech community embarked on an Alternative Spring Break (ASB) trip early in the morning on Saturday, March 12.  They endured a fourteen-hour ride in four, and then three, minivans (the fourth vehicle broke down early in the journey) to Goldsboro, North Carolina, and they all were still smiling upon arrival at the lodging site in the small town.  Despite all that could have, and did, go wrong before the trip, t

Every student at IIT, Shimer, and Vandercook pays into the Student Activities Fund (SAF).  But does every student know where their money goes?  To which organizations it is allocated?  And an even bigger question: how it is allocated?
