After two extremely impressive away wins last weekend against Indiana Wesleyan (RV) and Bethel College (#19), the Men’s Soccer team (#29) continued their good run of form on Saturday afternoon as they comfortably defeated Lawrence Tech 3-0 at Stuart Field.
The Hawks started the better of the two teams and took a deserved lead in the 25th minute, when Philippine international Robert Rixer rose gloriously in the penalty box to bullet home a famous header from a Graeme Port cross.
The Hawks continued to press for the remainder of the first half, but a combination of good goalkeeping and poor finishing saw the score stay at 1-0 going into the half time break.
The team came out in the second half determined to put the game beyond Lawrence Tech and in the 56th minute the Hawks added to their lead. Graeme Port picked the ball up on the left wing and after beating the Lawrence Tech defender he crossed the ball across the face of the goal, where Ciaran Kholi-Lynch was on hand to fire into the back of the net for the Hawks second.
The home team still had time to pick up a third goal before the game was done, with Liam Barrett nodding his own rebound off the cross-bar into the back of the net for his second goal in as many games.
With the 3-0 win the Hawks improve their overall season record to 3-2-1 with just two out-of-conference games left on the team's schedule.
The team will be in action again this Tuesday evening at Stuart Field when they face Ashford University, whose team si ranked 22nd in the nation. Kick-off is at 7 p.m.
