"IIT will be internationally recognized in distinctive areas of education and research, using as its platform the global city of Chicago, driven by a professional and technology-oriented focus, and based on a culture of innovation and excellence. Its mission will be to provide distinctive and relevant education in an environment of scientific, technological, and professional knowledge creation and innovation."

The university is in the mid-stages of developing a new strategic plan. As was evident in recent online discussions on budget transparency and the questions posed during the President/Provost Forum, IIT is composed of multifaceted perspectives and a student buy-in is crucial for the success of the strategic plan. Therefore, the Dean of Students invites you to submit your thoughts and feedback! The current IIT Strategic Plan, Mission and Vision Statements can be viewed online at: Please contact the Dean of Students office at [email protected] with any questions or comments. The form can be accessed by emailing [email protected]
The questions range from relatively objective matters like students' preferred branding of the university to more subjective views on student experience and the priorities you see as important. The options include increasing the undergraduate student body, stabilizing the graduate student population, improving university ranking, developing more pathways to professionalism through better partnerships between colleges, transforming the popular summer experience at IIT, expanding on-line education program offerings, involving the Institute of Design, Kent Law and Stuart School of Business into the undergraduate experience, development of Lewis College of Human Sciences, growth of research and support and increasing faculty diversity.
The university also wants feedback on distinctively defining the IIT graduate population, increasing the impact of IIT’s research by focusing on interdisciplinary themes, promoting innovation and excellence throughout the university, elevating engineering’s reputation to international stature and improving the financial strength of the university.

Besides these the form also asks for suggestions in adding value to your experience at IIT as well as any other comments or suggestions about the current and/or proposed strategic initiatives as listed above.
