The Illinois Tech Women's Volleyball team suffered two tough losses last week, bringing them down to a 1-1 conference record and a 5-10 overall record.
The Lady Hawks lost their first conference game last Tuesday, falling to Robert Morris in a three-game match. Illinois Tech was never able to find a rhythm in their play and dropped the games 19-25, 21-25, 22-25. Sophomore Kate Kendall led the Hawks with 12 kills in the game while freshman Shea Manley chipped in 8 kills of her own.
The Hawks turned right around and played their second game the next day against Davenport University. The Hawks took the first game 25-23 and it looked like they had turned their luck around. Unfortunately, Davenport wasn't ready to give up and they ended up coming back to win the next three games (18-25, 7-25, 18-25), resulting in another loss for the Hawks. Kendall had a double-double for the Hawks, contributing 13 kills and 12 digs. Freshman Taylor Duman and Senior Kayla Heller each added 8 kills while Junior Rebecca Bograd tossed out 31 assists in the match.
The team is looking to turn things around this week as the girls bring their game back home for 3 straight matches. The Volleyball team plays on Tuesday (September 20), Thursday (September 22) and Friday (September 23) against Saint Xavier University, Cardinal Stritch University and Lawrence Tech, respectively. Each game starts at 7 p.m. in Keating Sport Center. Be sure to come out and cheer your Hawks on for three more wins!
