Writer’s note: Aside from grammatical and spelling fixes, Steven’s responses to our standard questionnaire have not been edited in any form. His answers, as well as the accompanying image, are how he chose, of his own accord, to present himself.

1. Full name:  Steven Milan Moreno

2. Hometown, country: El Paso, Texas, USA

3. Year and major: Spring 2019, Bachelor's in Biomedical Engineering

4. Position in TechNews:

“Writer and photographer. Typically, that includes writing several lines of letters from the English alphabet and the occasional number in a specific pattern that is then coupled with the occasional spacing between letters to form words and punctuation to make sentences.  What pattern I use depends entirely on what I am writing about, which varies widely from issue to issue. As for the photographer part of the position, that consists of using a smartphone to take photos of things, typically things that are relevant to the writing part of the position, but not always. I do not know why you needed me to describe these actions in my own words, but there you have it.”

5. How did your involvement with TechNews begin/what inspired you to join?

“I just appeared one day at one of the meetings, and no one there questioned why I appeared or asked me to leave. If neither of those things happens, I tend to just stay. What makes you think I had to be motivated to do stuff? I just do it. If that's good enough of a reason for Nike, then it is good enough of a reason for me to give you.”

6. Do you have a favorite memory or sentiment regarding TechNews?

“I don't see how that's any of your business, but I would have to say it was seeing my first piece published. I don't remember what it was, but I do remember that I remembered that event fondly.”

7. Illinois Tech involvements outside of TechNews?

WIIT 88.9FM Historian, UNICEF at IIT member. If you are trying to make me self-conscious about my social life, rest assured, you are gonna [sic] have to try harder than that.”

8. Any hobbies or interests outside of school/TechNews?

“Ending up somewhere or at some event, I have no earthly business being at and making it work anyway. For some reason, that seems to happen to me a lot more often than you would think.”

9. Any other thoughts or factoids you'd like to have shared?

“I imagine you are asking that sarcastically. No, but I will say that I am currently in the market for an inflatable beach ball that is at least 6' in diameter (yes, feet, not inches), no questions asked.

If anyone know where I can obtain one, I would very much like to get my hands on it as soon as possible. To be honest, the only reason I answered this interview was so that I could get that request into the paper. If you can think of a better way of posing this request in public, I’d love to hear it.”
