On that fateful Wednesday night, I held my breath as I read the articles online, one by one. When I got to that last article, I felt nothing else but a rising pain in my heart. Troy Davis was executed at last, for a crime he may or may not have committed. The first thing that raced through my mind as I read on was, “Is this truly justified?”

There was enough doubt cast on his case. Seven of the nine witnesses who had claimed they saw him murder police officer Mark MacPhail either changed or recanted their testimony.

So, it has been a long time since there has been a coffee club article out; our older patrons probably know what this is about, but it is a new semester, so let's recap for our freshmen. It’s well known that for every good Mexican restaurant, there are dozens of bad ones. Luckily one of the good ones, Taqueria San Jose, is mere minutes away from IIT.  Located just north of the intersection of 33rd and Halsted at 3253 S Halsted, Taqueria San Jose is easily reached by taking the 35 bus west to Halsted, then walking north to the restaurant. The restaurant is open from 11 AM to 11 PM on weekdays and until 2 AM on weekends.

The Illinois Tech Women's Volleyball team suffered two tough losses last week, bringing them down to a 1-1 conference record and a 5-10 overall record.
The Lady Hawks lost their first conference game last Tuesday, falling to Robert Morris in a three-game match. Illinois Tech was never able to find a rhythm in their play and dropped the games 19-25, 21-25, 22-25. Sophomore Kate Kendall led the Hawks with 12 kills in the game while freshman Shea Manley chipped in 8 kills of her own.

The Office of Financial Aid is always looking for new resources to serve students. One area that the office has greatly expanded is outside scholarship resources. Within the past year, the office has found and posted dozens of scholarship opportunities on our website (http://www.iit.edu/financial_aid/scholarships/). A scholarship channel was added to the Finances tab on the MyIIT portal with scholarship opportunities and deadlines. Finally, the office obtained several books full of outside scholarship opportunities.
